Class at Mendel University and Arboretum

It is Wednesday at Mendel University for the UCD Study Abroad Class' "Genetics - Mendel to Genomics".  Today, Dr. Sanders is covering Chapter 3 on cell division, meiosis and its connections to Mendel's principles, sex-linked inheritance, sex determination, and mammalian random X inactivation. The class meets in a new classroom in the newly built (finished in May!) Mendel Pavilon - this is the first class held in the new building!

After class today, they were taken on a tour of the University's arboretum by the Dr. Ladislav Havel, who is a professor and chairman of the Department of Plant Biology at Mendel University:

Plants on the sloping rock structure are sagiforms which live in sand and on rocks.  The slope structure allows the plants' capillary action to draw water upslope.

  1. These are great photos and I love the captions. What an interesting trip this is. It has to be quite an honor for these young people to experience Mendel's path. I loved the orchids. The gardens were just lovely.
