English Gardens

There are two main gardens at Clare College:  the Scholar's Garden and the Fellowes' Garden.  Over the last three weeks, I've been taking photos of the two gardens.  Below, I am sitting on the bench in the Scholar's Garden -- a lovely rectangle park overlooking the Cam and lined with beautiful and colorful flowers:

Old Court sits behind the Scholar's Garden:

When you walk out of the Scholar's Garden, you are on the Clare Bridge -- looking over the bridge, you can see punts, birds, our students feeding the birds (swans and geese), and the Fellowes' Garden:

Although you can see that the Fellowes' Garden flanks one side of the Cam, it does have a formal entry gate with steps leading onto the beautiful lawn area:

Mark and I decided to walk all over the Fellowes' Garden, taking all of its little paths to visit all of the gardens of flora and fauna growing there:

A couple of weeks ago, I took these photos of some of the interesting plants I found there:

Same leaves, but one set is yellow/green and the other set is deep purple & black!

As Mark and I walked the depth and breadth of the Fellowes' Garden, we eventually cam to the Cam River:

This was quite a Weeping Willow -- no doubt it was happy to be near the river.

Below, you are looking back at the Clare Bridge from the bank where our students had been feeding the swans and geese just a short while before:

So, why can't my backyard look as nice??
